Chelsea Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Speculation as Pure Gossip

Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has branded recent talk connecting him with a move to Manchester City as "100% speculation".

The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant in Manchester, addressed the persistent rumours surrounding his next move.

Maresca, appointed Chelsea manager in June 2024, is under contract that runs through the end of the decade, with a possible extension option.

"It doesn't bother me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for these kind of things."

He went on to explain, Primarily, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I said many times, is just about this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's speculation. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is not true."

Chelsea, currently sitting in fourth position in the top flight, are scheduled to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a 12:30 GMT fixture.

Strain Following Recent Remarks

Maresca's most recent statement follow after he referred to a recent 48-hour period as his "worst" since joining Chelsea.

Those original words had fueled considerable talk of a possible rift between the manager and the club's key decision-makers.

When pressed if he had since spoken with the club's leadership, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we talk about various topics. But about the Everton media session, no."

The manager did confirm he would definitely remain at the club next season and called on the fans to "continue to support the team".

In more positive news, Maresca indicated that sidelined attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, potentially available for a fixture against Aston Villa on 27 December.

Perspective: Unresolved Tension

The perceived disconnect between Maresca and the club's hierarchy remains as an unhealed issue that continues to cause concern.

While there has been no deepening of the situation in the open, there has equally been no resolution offered, creating the disagreement unresolved.

The atmosphere during these media briefings has grown increasingly awkward, leading to concerns it could undermine what has up to now been a promising start to the campaign.

Chelsea's on-field position is strong: they are in the top four in the league, have qualified for the League Cup semi-finals, and can achieve a favourable Champions League draw with strong performances in their remaining games.

The prevailing uncertainty is whether this behind-the-scenes situation might begin to disrupt a team that was beginning to appear settled.
